Last week we made quite a lot of progress on our big organ transplant. Again, we had a great turnout of parishioners to help out, and our activities included:
- Bill Visscher installed the great division wind chest shells on their supports in the organ chamber.
- We installed the toe boards for the great division back on the newly-installed wind chest shells in the organ chamber.
- We wired 4 more foot boards on the great division – we only have one more to go! (We ran out of the 50-wire cable for these, so we’ll do the last one when we get some more.)
- Murray and I made a field trip to St. John’s in Aptos to pick up additional pipe boxes and to see their organ installation project.
- We boxed up the smaller pipes in the pews.
- In preparation for Bishop Mary’s visit, we moved all the foot boards and smaller pipes from the pews into the organ chamber for temporary storage.
- We got about half-way through re-wiring the organ chamber for better lighting, additional electrical outlets, and a better light switch location.
- Most of the remaining organ parts got a thorough cleaning.
Bishop Mary visited us on Sunday. This was her yearly parochial visit, where she confirmed two young parishioners, and she took the occasion bless the new organ and our new roof as well. Since the organ is in lots of places, this entailed blessing the organ chamber and a representative pipe during our Sunday service, and later doing the same for the scattered organ parts.
Again, we had a great turnout from lots of parishoners to help out. These included:
- Carol & Murray Walker
- Allison Gong
- Tom Hostetler
- Davis Folsom-Jones
- Ian Smith
- Tony Nickel
- Caryn Machado & husband
- John & Liz Wesolowski
Thank you all for your efforts. It is greatly appreciated and it’s a great pleasure to have so much parish interest in – and dedication to – this project.
Upcoming tasks this next week include:
- Move the temporarily-stored parts back into the pews.
- Finish the wiring in the organ chamber for the lights.
- Finish wiring the last foot board of the great division.
- Wire up the various pedal division wind chests.
- Repair a cracked rack board and other miscellaneous wood parts.
- Re-install all the screws in the toe boards of both the swell and great wind chests.
- Re-install the rack boards on the swell and great wind chests.
