It’s been another good week of organ installation progress. Here’s what happened:
- Moved the parts temporarily stored in the organ chamber for the Bishop’s visit back out into the pews.
- Completed wiring for the new lights and outlets in the organ chamber – now we can see something in there without a flashlight!
- We wired up three wind chests for the pedal division – the last one is waiting for Bill to split it into two, then we can do that one.
- We repaired two cracked rack boards
- We installed all the screws in the toe boards for the great and swell divisions
- We installed rack boards (except the mixture ranks) for the great and swell divisions – almost ready for pipes!
- Cut a new hole in the floor in the organ chamber for the cables coming from the console
Thanks to all the crew who turned out to help, including:
- Carol & Murray Walker
- Allison Gong
- David Folsom-Jones
- Tony Nickel
- Caryn Machado
- Susan Cavalieri
It was definitely different work from all the wiring we’ve been doing; lots of climbing around in the organ chamber, moving parts in, and installing them. Tony and David now know all about 110 AC electrical wiring in conduit, and Caryn and Susan learned how a wind chest goes together (at least the top of one…).
This next week will be more actual installation work. We expect Bill to be here for a good portion of the week, so we’ll be taking our cues from him on what to do. We expect it will include the following:
- Start installing the foot boards that we wired up into the swell and great wind chests.
- Route the foot board cabling back to the location of the relay (to be installed this week)
- Move two of the wind chests for the pedal division into the chamber
- Re-hang the door into the swell partition to reverse swing and open into the swell chamber.
- Start installing pipes (yay!).
- Miscellaneous woodworking and wood parts repair
