As a way to help reduce the cost of our new Shoenstein organ, the parish agreed to provide some of the labor for the project. Our big task is to install the wiring on the wind chests; 1500+ connections in all. There are around 10 different wind chests, but 4 really big ones – two for the swell division and two for the great division, and these represent the bulk of the wiring.
So what are we actually doing when we’re “wiring” the organ? Well, today I took a time-lapse video while we wired one of the foot boards for the great organ. This one had 61 connections to make. Thanks to everyone who helped out on this one:
